About our school

Graham James Primary School was formed in April 1991 following the amalgamation of Graham James Infant School (opened in 1966) and Graham James Junior School (opened in 1968). The School became an Academy in 2013.

The single storey building comprises of 14 classrooms, a Nursery, computer suite, large hall, small hall, 2 libraries, extensive learning space in several areas around the school, kitchen, large reception and administrative wing.  The school is set in pleasant grounds, with two large playgrounds with lots of equipment and markings, extensive playing field and a developing wild life area.  An internal courtyard, complete with pond and shrubbery is used for science and nature work, together with a ‘wildlife area’ and new garden. The Nursery and Reception classes have their own designated outside learning zone that is accessible throughout the year. The Key Stage 1 classrooms have access to a designated outside learning space also, and Key Stage 2 classes have access to several other outside areas including a large covered space with colourful benches and an ‘outdoor’ classroom.

The Academy has recently been through two large building projects to expand and improve our facilities. We are very proud of the whole of our learning environment and all the wonderful equipment we have.

The Academy has strong links with other Schools and Academies in our local area and across the authority. We work closely with all other indpendent primary academies in Thurrock (IPAG).

PRACTICAL DETAILS

School Hours

School session times are:         8.45am. – 15.15 p.m

(with a 15 minute morning (flexible) break, 1 hour for lunch and the daily mile).

Please ensure that your child is at school on time – but better late than not at all. The gate will open at 8.40am and the children will be allowed into their classrooms at this time.  Please try to ensure that your child does not arrive at school before 8.40am unless they are attending an early morning club or it is their class’s swimming morning.  Children should be ‘dropped off’ by their parents at the high green gates by the corner of Class R.

At the end of the school day, children in infant classes can be collected from the classroom’s outside door.

Lunch Time

Lunchtime is from 11.45pm until 12.45pm for infants and 12.15pm until 1.15pm for juniors

Children may remain at school or go home for lunch although very few – if any – go home.

If the children remain at school, they can either have a school meal, currently at a cost of £2.30/day, or they may bring sandwiches.

Dinner money should be paid via ParentPay.

The children are supervised at lunchtime by a Senior Mid-day Supervisor and a team of Mid-day Assistants.
